Twitter workflow

I'm trying to understand the workflow for bots that are connected to a Twitter account.

My app is receiving ALL tweets by people I've interacted with. Not just the ones that DM or mention my account. Why is this? Is there a definitive dev guide for the Twitter interface somewhere?

   The idea was to let developers build a more complete twitter bot. We don't
   have a definitive twitter guide yet, but there are a couple faq's that can
   be found here: http://help.imified.com/dashboard/faqs

   For what it's worth... While I see the value in building dynamic bots that truly converse, i would guess that the dm/@ use case is the dominant one and is worth making really easy.

   I will try to parse the messages on my server to narrow down the results.
