how to make a simple auto respond bot?

Hi, I currently use an osx chatting program with an alice bot plugin ¨eliza¨ to accomplish an auto respond to keywords on msn and im trying to migrate that to imified, but im not sure where to start, i can get a bot online ( link with bot key ) but i dont know if to use php or xml and im not really sure how to use either, I don´t want anything complex or to spam, users would send messages to my bot and my bot would pick up keywords and respond with some text and links from my website

any help would be appreciated, thanks!
